Rocna Anchor Kicks Ass!

My 33 lb Rocna Anchor held fast during 30 mph winds.  Anchored in 12 feet of water with soft mud bottom. I sleep like a baby when it's rolly like this.

Little Cod Wood Stove

Yay! After a full year of waiting, my "Little Cod" wood stove has finally arrived!

Before I had even decided what kind of boat I wanted to buy, I just knew this puppy was going in it. The only problem was the price. I knew that once I bought my boat there would always be something more important to spend my money on, and my sweet Little Cod would forever remain a wishful fantasy. My solution was to order the stove before I bought the boat. The color is not the bright and happy blue that I had expected, but I'm happy just the same.

Here is the stove with its alcohol burners installed, and temporarily placed where the old origo alcohol stove was. Leslie and I tested the alcohol burners and can report that they work well. Had hot coffee and piping hot soup!

I hope to reconfigure the galley and eliminate the navigation table to make it more user friendly.

I will include installation updates as they occur. It might be a while, though, as I have tons of other projects more pressing.

Motoring up the Potomac.

My almost 13-year old son Cody and I finished our first boating trip together. We began in Lewisetta Marina, travelled up the Potomac River and finally dropped our anchor across the river from the National Harbor in Alexandria,Virginia.

I couldn't have had a more perfect traveling companion than my son. He is a hard worker, quick to learn, funny, and never complains. I am blessed.

Anchoring on Potomac River

Monday, my 13-year old son Cody and I will motor Clementine up the Potomac River to the Woodrow Wilson Bridge and drop anchor. I will then begin a trial period of living aboard for an undetermined length of time. Since Leslie has to work, she will spend three or four days a week with me and the rest back at the condo. I'm still trying to work out how I'm going to cohabitate with Leslie's two obese, hair shedding, cats and a litter box. God help me.

Galley all stocked and ready for a four-day trip up the Potomac. Removed the Origo alcohol stove and the Dickinson solid fuel heater to make room for my "Little Cod" wood stove (with drop in alcohol burners).

Blog Shame

My girlfriend Leslie is a talented writer and has what I believe to be one of the best blogs around called "Leslie in Adams Morgan." She pushed me against my will to start this blog. It's been many months now and I have added little more than a few pictures but I have managed to attract one pathetic follower who I assumed must have arrived here inadvertently during a hangover morning and accidentally followed me. Well, to my horror and shame I've recently discovered that my one pathetic follower is leslie. Now I'm not usually one to worry much about being popular but this is just plain sad. One follower?! Does it even count if it's your girlfriend? If my mom becomes my second follower, I think I'll just shoot myself in shame. Please follow me.
